BEST KIDS INDOOR ACTIVITIES

We understand how this Coronavirus is affecting families with kids (trust us, we have 4).  And so we put together this list of the Best Kids Indoor Activities with simple instructions on how we are entertaining our kids during this Self-Quarantine and how they are entertaining themselves too! We would love to know what ideas you have too to keep the kids entertained, send us a message with your list.

BUILD A BLANKET FORT

As we are sure you remember from your childhood, building a blanket fort is a great way to keep your kids entertained for hours. From building the fort, to taking toys & snacks into it and then getting to have the best indoor camping trip ever! Forts are an easy and effective way to keep those kids happy. Here is a video we like of how to build the best blanket fort.

INDOOR SCAVENGER HUNT

These are so much fun for the kids and fun for us Adults to watch! You can make it simple or difficult depending on your kids age group. We found that our kids were entertained for several hours because each of them wanted to make their own hunt for the others. Here is some ideas on how to make the scavenger hunt clues.

BOARD GAME NIGHT

This is one of the Best Kids Indoor Activities because the whole family gets to be involved. Take the names of everyone in your family and put those names into a basket. Each night draw a name and that person gets to pick the board game for the evening. It is great family time & the kids truly love the mystery of who’s name will be picked.

FAMILY SLEEPOVER

Our kids absolutely love these nights. We pick a room in the house (could be a kids bedroom, the living room, the basement, etc.) and we all grab our bedding and have a group sleepover. Now, most nights we just let the kids do this because we love our bed too much, but some nights we will join them or let them have a sleepover in our room. One of the Best Kids Indoor Activities.

SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

Now, there are hundreds of science experiments that you can do with your kids at home. Some of our favorites are:

  • Oobleck Slime – its a solid when its out of the container and a liquid slime when its in the container!
  • Edible Water Beads – they look and feel like beads but they are completely edible!
  • Lava Lamps – Perfect for sensory kids or for kids who need the distractions.

ARTS & CRAFTS FOR DISPLAY

Creating an Art Gallery for our kids masterpieces was a huge success in our house. Our kids would draw, color, paint & create works of art and we display them on the walls until the next one they create. Then they have to decide if they want to replace the work they already have on the wall with the new piece or put it in their arts box for another day. It is wonderful watching their imagination grow while creating art!

STORY READING

Even the older kids will enjoy Story time. Again, put all the names of the family members in a basket. Each person gets to pick a chapter book they want to read (little kids can do this too). When your name is pulled from the basket, you pick the Chapter Book for the family. Each night you read 2 chapters out loud to the family until the book is finished. Then repeat the steps. For the little kids who can’t read, they can still pick the book and they can choose who they want to read for them. This is a great Kids Indoor Activity to do and its wonderful for family time!

BEDROOM RE-ARRANGE

We all get cabin fever when we are stuck indoors for a long period of time. One of the ways we can help our kids cope with the stir-craziness is to let them re-arrange their bedrooms. Give them complete control (including figuring out how to move the furniture) and allow them to let their space reflect them. It is a great way to switch up the scenery and keep them busy for several hours to days. If your kids are too young to do this on their own, it is still a great way to help them re-arrange their room with your support. Here’s some ideas on space re-arranging.
